Clocaenog Forest near Ruthin, was the most important red squirrel stronghold in Wales in the 1990’s when red squirrels were close to extinction on Anglesey.
Although numbers have declined, a population still exists, as images from camera traps have proven - the most recent picture captured being August 2016.
Now the new Red Squirrels United project has enabled us to employ a Red Squirrel Ranger for Clocaenog Forest and it is hoped that within the 3-year project timescale, a great deal can be achieved to boost numbers in this key population.
